Come with us as we return to South America this summer to volunteer at La Casa De Fe, a home for abandoned and special needs children in Shell, Ecuador.

Day One….. (Sara)

Tuesday, 18 May 2010

2:00am – Fall into bed after finishing up all of the last minute packing and arrangements

5:30am – Head out to catch flight at DIA

8:30am – Uneventful flight from Denver to Houston

1:15pm - I am now sitting in the Houston Airport with about 2 more hours till my next flight leaves for Panama. After arriving in Panama I have a quick 65 minute layover where I have to change airlines, and then it is on to Quito.

I should arrive in Quito at about 10:30(CST) and I am already looking forward to hitting the sheets. However I will not have much time to sleep before day break comes and I head out at 6:30 to start the day’s activities.

The first few days of my trip will be spent visiting Kevin, Iris, David, Elian, Pamela, and Angela, the six children that I sponsor and/or write to through Compassion International. Compassion is a child sponsorship organization whose mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

Meeting Elian. Summer 2009

At the park with David, Iris, Pamela, and Kevin. Summer 2009.

Since meeting five of my kids last year, I have been working extra hours, babysitting, and saving up money so that I could see them again. We planned the dates for our trip to Ecuador so that I could visit the kids before going to the orphanage.

This visit with my kids will be especially memorable because the plan is to visit each child in their own communities where I will meet their families, visit their churches, and see their homes. Last year I was able to meet Elian in his home, but the others lived too far apart, and were instead brought together in Quito for a “fun day.” While I enjoyed meeting all of my children, there was something so special about meeting Elian in his own home. I am so excited to get to know each of my kids better individually.

Please pray that...

... The rest of the flights will go smoothly

... My baggage will all arrive

... Everything will go as planned for the visits

Dios les bendiga,

~Sara

  1. Hi Sara, I hope your trip is going well! I know you're going to have a wonderful time. I can't wait to read all about it. I just realized that I never replied to you on OC! I really thought I did. In case you haven't visited Elian yet and see this in time, Jandry's full name is: Jandry Luis Rendón Cedeño.

    Praying for you,
    Danielle Day
