Come with us as we return to South America this summer to volunteer at La Casa De Fe, a home for abandoned and special needs children in Shell, Ecuador.

Making Cookies in the Casa (Erin)

This week Sara, Luke and I have been having a few kids over to our house each afternoon. We play games, work on reading, bake cookies do crafts and just have fun. The children are so desperate for one-on-one attention and it’s a great time for us to get to know them as individuals.

Talia, Marcia and Abigail were the first to come over. We made shortbread cookies (with sprinkles of course!)

We ended up getting flour all over :0)

The girls were very serious about the measuring and cutting out of their cookies and making sure all the sprinkles went in the “right” place. I think they would have continued cutting out cookies all day if we hadn’t run out of dough.

We also played Twister!

Talia (11) and Abigail (9) along with their younger sister Alondra(6) arrived at the orphanage a little over a year ago.

Talia loaded the three of them on the public bus and they dropped themselves off at Casa de Fe. As far as know, there is no mom in the picture and their dad was abusive, especially towards the two older girls.

We recently found out that the girls’ father went through the official legal process to regain custody of them. He showed up today to claim the girls. It was a hard time of goodbyes especially knowing that they are going into a situation that is very far from ideal. A wave of helplessness seemed to wash over the teachers and orphanage volunteers, knowing that there was absolutely nothing that we could do. But we have a God who can do something, who is bigger and stronger than anything we can imagine. And he has a plan for each of His little ones. Please pray for the safety of the girls and that God will continue to give them wisdom beyond their years.

~Erin
